The 5 most beautiful beaches of Procida: complete guide
The most beautiful beaches of Procida are few, concentrated and very different from each other. The island measures just 4 km2 but can surprise even those who already know it: the sand is dark and volcanic, the sea has shades ranging from blue to deep blue, and even in August there are silent corners where the sound of the waves is the only thing that you hear.
The beaches of Procida They have a precise, wild, authentic character, sometimes uncomfortable in the best sense of the term, and each one is worth a visit for different reasons. This guide helps you choose the right one based on what you're looking for.
What are the most beautiful beaches of Procida
Procida has five main beaches, each with different characteristics. Below you will find them described one by one, with practical instructions on how to reach them and what to expect.
Chiaia beach: the most suggestive
The Beach of Chiaia is the most photographed among the bays of Procida, and it is not difficult to understand why. It is located on the eastern side of the island, sheltered in the bay of the same name, and to reach it you have to descend about 186 steps starting from Piazza Olmo (via Pizzaco) or via dei Bagni.
At the bottom of the stairs opens a stretch of fine dark sand of volcanic origin, with the sea in front and, behind, one of the most recognizable views of the island: the little port of Corricella and the high ground of Terra Murata.
The bottom rises gradually, making it suitable for children. The beach is almost entirely free, with two small establishments at the ends, one of which also has a restaurant overlooking the sea.
Postman's Beach: the most famous
The Postman's Beach, the official name of which is Pozzo Vecchio, is located on the western side of the island, in a sheltered basin that can be reached descending along the road that runs along the municipal cemetery. Whoever saw the movie with Massimo Troisi already knows how it is: a horseshoe bay, silent even in high season, with volcanic dark sand and a deep and transparent sea.
It is mostly a free beach, there is a small beach with sun loungers and umbrellas and a kiosk. It is worth visiting regardless of the film: the bay has something intimate and collected that makes it different from all the other coves of Procida.
Chiaiolella and Ciraccio: the longest coastline
On the western side, between Punta Serra and the promontory of Santa Margherita Vecchia, the longest stretch of coast of all Procida extends. The Beach of Chiaiolella, called "Ciracciello" by the inhabitants and that of Ciraccio are separated by two characteristic tufa stacks, born from an ancient landslide of the ridge. Here the sun beats all day and the seabed is low, ideal for those who travel with children.
The presence of several equipped establishments makes it the most organized bathing area on the island. On the side of Chiaiolella you have a unique view of the islet of Vivara, protected nature reserve, and Ischia on the horizon. In the afternoon the maestral often rises, making the sea more rough, appreciated by those who want a swim with more character or practice surfing.
Beach of the Language: pebbles and sunset on the canal
The beach of Procida's Tongue is the only one of Procida completely free of sand: it is made of polished pebbles, and already this distinguishes it from all the others. It is located at the left end of the port of Marina Grande, a few minutes walk from the center, reachable following Via Roma to the bottom or going down the staircase of Via Bartolomeo Pagano.
It directly overlooks the Procida canal, the passage of the ferries from the mainland, which means deeper seabeds and slightly more moved sea. The rock rib covered with Mediterranean scrub that embraces it behind gives it a wild look despite the proximity to the port. It is the right place for those who want to enjoy a quiet sunset or take a quick bath before taking back the ferry. In the middle of the summer the sun arrives at 10:00 am, while in the early afternoon it begins to shadow, keep it in mind when you plan the day.
Silurenza beach: comfortable and quiet
Not far from the Language, always near Marina Grande, Silurenza beach is the most practical choice for those arriving with children or not want to get away from the port. It is easily reachable on foot, has a seabed that gently degrades and is equipped with bathing establishment, bar and restaurant. Among the accessible beaches of Procida is the one that combines comfort and tranquility, and it is also convenient for those who stop on the island just for a few hours.

From 6 April to 31 October private vehicles are prohibited to the island. It is better to park in Pozzuoli or Naples and take the boat, the trip takes about 40 minutes from Pozzuoli and an hour from Naples.
Once on the island, a scooter or an electric bike give total freedom, especially to reach the Chiaia and the Postino, which are not reached by car. The local buses cover the main routes but have reduced hours in the late afternoon.
The volcanic sand warms quickly: the slippers are more useful than it looks. And if you think you're snorkeling, masking door and mouthpiece from home, the backdrops around Ciraccio's cliffs and in the Postino bay are worth the equipment.
When to go to the beaches of Procida
The best window is between late May and late June, or September. The sea is already warm, the beaches are not yet or are no longer, at the most influx, and the prices of the accommodation are more reasonable. July and August are lively but manageable compared to other destinations in the Gulf of Naples: Procida remains a man-made island even in high season.
Those who want the almost deserted beaches must bet on May or October, the sea is still bathing and the morning light is difficult to find elsewhere.
